Posted : November 27th 2007Back in July I did a shoot with Vancouver-based Brodie Bicycles, a great company that makes a ton of cool bikes. They were looking for a short-notice, quick turnaround job for a couple of images to go in their 2008 brochure, so one summer’s morning we headed out around downtown to get what they needed.
I heard they were doing something different stylistically with the brochure this year, but didn’t know what until I saw it for myself; the whole thing is done in an awesome line-drawing style, it’s got a great fresh look and really stands out from other manufacturers’ “me-too” offerings.
Here’s the pages that have my work on, it’s intriguing to see the differences between the shots – what got cut, what was added and what stayed the same.
Thanks to Bruce Spicer and Andrew Summers at Brodie, and Julia Wong for putting up with my usual “can you just ride that one more time” annoyances while still looking great.

Nice job, Dan! Takes me back to my Brodie Catalyst (RIP), on which I cut my mountain biking teeth in the Peak District in the early ’90s. Fantastic bike.
Btw, is that the Lions Gate bridge in the first shot?
Yes indeed, looking out towards North Vancouver. We actually got there a little late for ‘full rush hour’ traffic, being the second shot of the day, a fact deftly masked by the addition of several vehicles in the final line art.
